You'll receive various notifications from Gusto—some notification types can be customized, while others cannot.
- Account-specific emails
- You'll receive all account-specific emails—for now, you cannot customize or turn these off.
- These emails will go to your personal email. If a work email is added to Gusto, they will go there instead. Learn more below.
- Marketing emails (customizable)
- Text messages (customizable)
Account notifications—types of emails and where we'll send them We’ll send emails to your personal email unless a work email has been added in Gusto. At this time, which email address is used for specific notifications cannot be customized, and account emails cannot be disabled.
- You can change your personal email address (or password) at any time.
- If you're not receiving emails, try checking your spam folder.
- If your work email needs to be updated, contact your admin so they can make the change.

Change your marketing email preferences Opt in or out of certain marketing categories, or unsubscribe from all marketing emails. You can also manage these email settings by clicking the unsubscribe link in the footer of any marketing emails you've received.
- Sign in to your employee or contractor account.
- Click the dropdown arrow next to your profile name at the top-right of the page.
- Click Settings.
- Click the Notifications section.
- Next to “Notifications”, click Edit.
- Use the checkboxes to let us know if you'd like to receive marketing emails about:
- New features and updates
- Product announcement and upcoming events.
- Offers and promotions
- Seasonal promotions and upcoming product offers and savings.
- Feedback and surveys
- Gusto sales representative communications
- Emails about Gusto's plans, pricing, and new customer implementation.
You can also toggle to unsubscribe from all marketing emails—if you do, you'll also be unsubscribed from any future marketing email categories.
Change your text (SMS) settings—includes info about the types of texts you may receive Unless you change your settings, Gusto won’t send any text messages. You can opt in to receive account and promotional messages.
- Sign in to your employee or contractor account.
- Click the dropdown arrow next to your profile name at the top-right of the page.
- Click Settings.
- Click the Notifications section.
- Next to “Notifications”, click Edit.
- Scroll to the “Text messages” headline and check, or uncheck, the boxes next to “Account information” or "Offers and promotions."
- Confirm your phone number if you need to.
- Click Save changes.

For now, we send texts when the actions below occur:
- Your bank account has been updated
- Your email has been updated
- Your phone number has been updated
- Your password was reset
- Your account has been locked
- 2-step verification has been enabled or disabled
