Summary
Solution
Staying compliant with labor laws means more than just filing the right paperwork—it also means keeping required notices visible to your employees. Federal and state laws require that certain labor law posters be displayed in the workplace, and these requirements can change throughout the year.
Gusto partners with PosterElite to offer a simple, reliable way to stay compliant with labor law poster requirements. When you add a poster subscription, you’ll receive physical and/or digital labor law posters based on your business needs, along with automatic updates whenever laws change. That means you don’t have to track changes yourself or worry about missing a deadline.
Each shipment includes the most up-to-date mandatory labor law notices. When laws change, you’ll get a printable temporary notice and a new poster mailed to you.
Follow these steps to see pricing and set up a poster subscription:
- Sign in to your Gusto admin account.

Here are some things to consider when hanging up and maintaining your posters.
Displaying your poster
Where to hang labor law posters
Employers must hang the labor law poster in a spot where employees regularly pass by and can easily read it. Common places include breakrooms, hallways, or near time clocks. The poster must be easy for everyone to see and access.
How to hang your poster
Your poster is made from strong, tear-resistant paper. You can hang it using tape, velcro, or tacks.
If you use pushpins or tacks, be careful—they can cause tears. To prevent this, use the two clear stickers that came with your poster. Stick one in each top corner, folding it over to cover both the front and back. Then put the pin through the sticker, not the poster.
If your poster has a QR code in the bottom-left corner, do not put a pin through it.
Multiple locations or breakrooms
To comply with federal and state posting requirements, employers should maintain up-to-date labor law posters wherever their employees work. If you have separate buildings, different floors, or other worksites, employers should make labor law posters available in each of those locations.

Caring for your physical poster
If the poster is wrinkled
Don’t worry if your poster has wrinkles when it arrives. The special paper will smooth out once it’s hanging.
Before hanging it, lay it flat on a table and rub it gently with your hand. Most wrinkles will fade after a few days on the wall.
Cleaning your poster
Your poster is printed on water-resistant synthetic paper. If it gets dirty, clean it with a damp cloth and a little dish soap or an all-purpose cleaner.
Don’t use bleach, degreasers, or harsh chemicals—these can damage the poster.
Here’s how to review your active subscriptions for each work location:
- Sign in to your Gusto admin account.

Poster management
How does the poster update service work?
When you start your workplace poster subscription, you’ll get an all-in-one State and Federal Labor Law Poster and instructions for any local or industry-specific notices.
Whenever a mandatory state or federal labor law posting changes, you’ll get an email with a printable update to use until your new poster arrives. Local city and county updates are sent by email only.
Your replacement poster usually arrives within 30 days of a mandatory change. It can take longer if there are multiple changes at once, as we'll try to aggregate changes to avoid confusion.
When your replacement poster arrives, you can tear down your old poster and the temporary notice you posted, and start fresh with the new replacement labor law poster.
When do I get my next poster?
With a workplace poster subscription, you’ll get a new poster whenever there’s a mandatory state or federal labor law posting update. This can happen at any time during the year.
What do I do with the “fill-in-the-blank” notices?
For physical posters, employers should fill in the missing information on the poster before hanging it. This helps you meet posting rules.
If I have a physical worksite, do I need to display a poster, or can I just use the remote poster solution?
If you have a physical worksite, you're legally required to display current labor law postings in an unlocked, unblocked area visible to employees and job applicants. This is typically in a breakroom or next to a time clock. Remote posters are only for remote workers, hybrid workers, mobile businesses, and fully remote businesses—not a replacement for worksites.
I’m a 100% remote business. What do I need to do in regard to labor law posters?
You still need to give your employees access to labor law notices. Gusto’s remote posters let your team view all required labor law postings online from anywhere in the U.S.
Do all remote employees receive the digital posters with a remote poster subscription?
Yes, the remote posters are available for all remote employees.
I’m a mobile business. Where do I hang my labor law posters?
If you are a 100% mobile business and do not have a physical location to display a labor law poster, you're still required to provide the required labor law postings to your employees. Gusto’s remote posters are digital and can be viewed from anywhere.
Is my poster current?
To check if your All-in-One State & Federal Labor Law poster is up to date, scan the QR code located at the top left-hand corner of the poster. It will tell you if the poster is up to date.
There’s a new law coming out. Am I covered?
Check for recent and upcoming updates at posterupdates.com/changes.html.
Do I need to provide Spanish labor law notices?
You must always post current notices in English. If you have Spanish-speaking employees who have trouble reading or understanding English, we recommend activating a Spanish poster subscription. Digital posters already include access to labor law postings in both languages. Gusto’s digital posters already include both English and Spanish.
Why isn't there a year at the top of the poster?
We don’t print the year on the poster because labor laws can change at any time—not just once a year. That means a poster printed this year could still go out of date. Instead of using a printed year, our pay-as-you-go update service help you stay compliant year-round by sending updates and replacement posters whenever the law changes.
Will I get a new poster every January?
Not necessarily. You’ll get a new poster anytime there’s a mandatory state or federal labor law posting update—this could be in January or another time during the year. Labor law postings are updated by governing agencies all throughout the year.
What if I have multiple locations?
You must post labor law notices at every work location. We recommend signing up each location for the update service to make compliance turn-key. That way, every site gets the correct posters and updates directly.
How do I know what recent updates happened in my state?
To view the most recent updates in your state, visit posterupdates.com.
Won't the government just tell me when there is an update?
No. Government agencies do not contact businesses about updates. New notices can come out anytime, and it’s up to you to stay compliant—or you can use a service like Gusto to stay on top of changes.
