View Gusto's plans or change your plan

You can only make a change to your plan once per month. If you're upgrading, additional features will be available instantly, and your new pricing will take effect for the current month.

  1. Click your name at the top right of Gusto and select Settings.
  2. Go to the Plan & billing tab.
  3. Next to "Gusto billing" click Change plan.
    • You can also get to this page by clicking your profile name in the top-right corner and choosing Upgrade.
  4. Review and compare your plan options—you can also Schedule a call with an expert at the top of the page if you'd like to talk through the options.
    • Simple plan customers: Click the Add-ons tab to check out the features you can now add-on to your plan.
  5. Choose the plan you'd like and, under the price, click Choose plan.
    • Upgrading your plan will kick in immediately, and downgrades will go into effect at the beginning of the next billing period (the first of the month).
    • For customers with the "Priority support and HR services" add-on: Downgrading or canceling your account will cause you to lose access to the HR Resource Center.
      • If you’d like to retain copies of your tickets and documents in the HR portal, you must save them prior to the effective date of your downgrade/cancellation.
  6. Once you've chosen a plan, choose your direct deposit speed.
  7. Click Continue.
  8. Review the plan details, let us know your reason for switching plans, and click Confirm.
    • If you chose the Premium plan: You won’t be upgraded or billed for Premium until you’ve spoken about the plan and pricing with a member of our team. You can schedule a call with a customer success manager on the following page.
Downgrading to a contractor-only plan

Contractor-only plans are for companies that do not need to pay W-2 employees. This plan only supports US independent contractors that need a 1099-NEC—these accounts cannot have any pre-existing or dismissed W-2 employees.

Requirements for downgrading to a contractor-only plan

  • No W-2 employees onboarded in Gusto.
  • No verified W-2 employee bank accounts.
    • If a bank has been verified, we've sent test deposits, creating an employee record that cannot be deleted.
  • No payrolls submitted for W-2 employees (including historical payrolls from previous providers).
  • No state tax information has been entered.

If you meet all of the above requirements, contact us from the Help section of your account for next steps.
